Worked example
These figures are an example, not a real gig. The breakdown above follows whatever is in the fields. This walkthrough is separate, and it uses the same order of operations: add guarantee and door, take the agent percentage of that gross, subtract expenses, add merch, then split the cents.
The contract is a vs deal. The guarantee offer is $800.00. The door split is 70% of an example door of $2,000.00 after comps and card fees, which is $1,400.00. The greater of $800.00 and $1,400.00 is $1,400.00, so that is what the venue pays. The $800.00 is not added on top. This calculator does not compare the two offers. Enter what landed in Guarantee, leave Door / extra at $0.00, and read the door deal vs guarantee page for the other ways a contract is written.

Guarantee plus door is the performance gross, $1,400.00. The agent cut is 10% of that gross, rounded to the nearest cent, which is $140.00. Expenses do not reduce that percentage, and merch is not part of it. The amount to split is $1,400.00 minus $85.00 minus $140.00 plus $0.00 of merch, which is $1,175.00.
Equal Pay divides $1,175.00 by 3 people. The even base is $391.66, and 2 cents are left. Those cents go to the first members, one cent each, so the shares are $391.67, $391.67, and $391.66. They add back to $1,175.00. The line labeled Each member’s share shows the first share, $391.67. That remainder is how bands split money under Equal Pay in the books. This calculator does not subtract a leader fee. A leader fee lives on the gig in a workspace.
FAQ
- What is a vs deal?
- A vs deal pays the greater of the guarantee and the door split. It does not add them. In the example, the greater of $800.00 and $1,400.00 is $1,400.00. Enter that amount as what the venue paid, and leave Door / extra at $0.00.
- Does the agent fee come off gross or net?
- The agent cut comes off the performance gross: guarantee plus door. The percentage is applied before expenses are subtracted, and merch is not included. In the example, 10% of $1,400.00 is $140.00. That is the agent line on the breakdown.
- How are expenses handled?
- Expenses are subtracted from the performance gross on their own, along with the agent cut. They do not change the gross the percentage uses. Merch is added after the cut. The example merch is $0.00, so the amount to split is $1,175.00.
- How is the remainder split?
- The amount to split is divided by the number of people in whole cents. Leftover cents go to the first members, one cent each. $1,175.00 across 3 people is $391.67, $391.67, and $391.66. The breakdown shows the first share, $391.67, on the line labeled Each member’s share.
